Each painting is about a division or contradiction of my identity. Overall they are examinations on the nature of acquiring identities and the underlying systemic processes that shape our perception of ourselves. Each painting is a personal narrative about moments in my past that clash with the stereotypical narrative of what it means to be a black male.
